In the wake of the Africa-wide
Rice Breeding Task Force established in 2010, the Africa
Rice Gender Task Force was launched in Cotonou on 16–18 August. The Task Force
will ensure an effective gender mainstreaming in rice research-for-development
and capacity-building activities in order to deliver gender-friendly
technologies that can improve the quality and competitiveness of locally
produced rice. More
opportunities will be targeted to promising young women scientists to pursue
their careers in rice science (visiting scientists, visiting fellows, MSc and
PhD scholarships).
