The Third Africa Rice Congress brings together representatives
from the public and private sector, civil society organizations,
farmer associations and research and extension communities
engaged in the development of Africa’s rice sector. This unique
and pan-African event is organized by the Africa Rice Center (AfricaRice)
and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations
(FAO) in collaboration with the Government of Cameroon, and will
have as its main theme: ‘Rice Science for Food Security through
Smallholder and Agri-business Development in Africa’.
AfricaRice together with its partners is calling for nominations for Outstanding Rice Entrepreneurs in Africa. For this prestigious award, we are seeking applications from candidates that best meet the following criteria:

Dr Adama Traoré named Interim Director General of AfricaRice
The Board of Trustees of the Africa Rice Center(AfricaRice) has appointed former Board member and Vice-Chair Dr Adama Traoré as Interim Director General with effect from 12 September 2013. It has also put in place procedures to initiate immediately the selection process for recruiting a new Director General.
The announcement was made by the Board at the end of its meeting in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, 3-5 September 2013, in view of the imminent departure of the current Director General Dr Papa Abdoulaye Seck, who has been nominated by the President of Senegal as Minister of Agriculture and Rural Equipment.
“Dr Traoré has a wealth of scientific and leadership experience that will help the AfricaRice Management and staff to maintain the momentum and continue the legacy of excellence established by Dr Seck,” said Dr Peter Matlon, Board Chair.
A Malian national, Dr Traoré was President and Executive Secretary of the National Committee on Agricultural Research (CNRA) of Mali. He was Chair of the West and Central African Council for Agricultural Research and Development (CORAF/WECARD), and Vice-Chair of the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA).
He has also been on the Boards of several international Centers that are members of the CGIAR Consortium – International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and AfricaRice.

Dr Adama Traoré nommé Directeur général par intérim d’AfricaRice
Le Conseil d’administration du Centre du riz pour l’Afrique (AfricaRice) a nommé un ancien membre et vice-président du Conseil d’administration, Dr Adama Traoré Directeur général par intérim avec effet à compter du 12 septembre 2013. Parallèlement, le Conseil d’administration a mis en place des procédures pour initier immédiatement le processus de sélection en vue du recrutement d’un nouveau Directeur général.
L’annonce a été faite par le Conseil d’administration à la fin de sa réunion à Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, 3-5 septembre 2013, vu le départ imminent de l’actuel Directeur général Dr Papa Abdoulaye Seck, qui a été nommé par le président du Sénégal comme ministre de l’Agriculture et de l’Équipement rural.
« Dr Traoré possède une solide expérience dans les domaines de la science et du leadership qui contribuera à aider le Management et le personnel d’AfricaRice à maintenir son élan et à perpétuer l’héritage d’excellence établi par Dr Seck », a affirmé Dr Peter Matlon, président du Conseil d’administration.
Dr Traoré de nationalité malienne a été président et Secrétaire exécutif du Comité national de la recherche agricole (CNRA) du Mali. We
are immensely proud to share the news that Dr Papa Abdoulaye Seck, Director
General of the Africa Rice Center (AfricaRice), has been nominated by the
President of Senegal as the new Minister of Agriculture and Rural Equipment.
He
will end his appointment at AfricaRice on 12 September 2013 after seven years
of outstanding leadership. His vision and passionate commitment to the mission
and goals of CGIAR and AfricaRice have transformed the Center and taken it to
new levels of excellence.
Dr
Seck is leaving behind him a well-managed, financially sound and
scientifically-vibrant organization. We are sure that he will bring the same
dedication and visionary management style to his new mission and we offer him
warm felicitations and best wishes for the future.
In
keeping with the special intergovernmental status of AfricaRice and the
guidelines laid down in its Constitution, the Board – which is now meeting in
Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire – will focus on managing an effective and efficient
recruitment process for selecting Dr Seck’s successor and will take immediate
action to ensure interim leadership. The name of the interim Director General
will be communicated shortly.

nouveaux niveaux d’excellence.
Dr Seck laisse dans son sillage une organisation
dynamique sur le plan scientifique, bien gérée et solide sur le plan financier. Nous sommes convaincus qu’il apportera pareil engagement
et style de gestion visionnaire à sa nouvelle mission et nous lui adressons nos
sincères félicitations et les vœux les meilleurs pour l’avenir.
Conformément au statut spécial d’organisation intergouvernemental
d’AfricaRice et aux directives prévues dans son acte constitutif, le Conseil d’administration
– qui se réunit actuellement à Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire – se focalisera sur la
gestion effective et efficiente d’un processus de recrutement en vue de la
sélection du successeur de Dr Seck et prendra les actions immédiates pour
assurer le leadership par intérim. Le nom du
Directeur général par intérim sera communiqué prochainement.
