As part of a partnership between AfricaRice and the
National Agricultural and Rural Advisory Agency of Senegal (ANCAR) to support
the rice sector, 25 advisory service providers of ANCAR were trained in
integrated rice crop management techniques, from 16 to 26 October 2017, at the AfricaRice
Regional Training Center in Senegal.
ANCAR agricultural advisory service providers play a
pivotal role in serving the information and technology needs of farmers in Senegal. The
AfricaRice training course aimed to provide the advisory agents with the latest
information on principles and practices of integrated rice crop management.
The hands-on
course covered topics relating
to rice production, integrated crop management, crop protection, seed
production, storage and distribution techniques and agricultural advisory
support techniques, among others.
The training program will help the agents to disseminate the knowledge gained to rice farmers in Senegal, leading to increased productivity and competitiveness of the rice value chain.
